Communications Commission News Report                                                          

Greetings!  Would you like to learn more about the Communications Commission? Are you wondering how you can help us to get the word out?

Our mission is to spread the word in the greater community about all that St. Luke’s has to offer. 

We place ads in local newspapers like Southwest Journal and Southside Pride for Easter and Christmas and other special occasions.  We have also been MPR (Minnesota Public Radio) sponsors and had a few messages broadcast on the classical MPR station (99.5 FM) to promote our season finale Friday Night Concert.  Recently we have experimented with a regular directory ad in the Edge Life newspaper.

We assist the other vestry commissions and other St. Lukan’s to promote the important work that they are doing.

Within the past couple years we have worked to highlight and attract diversity in our community.  For example, as an attempt to speak to the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, and Transgender (GLBT) community we have advertised in publications like Lavender magazine, a local GLBT publication.  The vestry also invited Jason Lucas, St. Luke’s Youth Group leader, to lead us in celebrating GLBT Pride Weekend on Sunday, June 24^th, where he shared his experience as a gay man in the Episcopal Church and at St. Luke’s.  We placed a colorful ad in the Southwest Journal to promote the Pride celebration.

The commission is working on ways to invite folks from all walks of life, from different points on their faith journeys, and with different cultural and ethnic backgrounds into St. Luke’s.  Currently we are focusing on ways that we can attract and nurture families with children.  We should be proud of our commitment to welcome ALL people to Grow in Love at St. Luke’s!

Now, what can you do to help???

The Communications Commission needs your fresh ideas and help with doing all of the exciting things that are possible.  Currently Rolf and I are the Commission, and we will welcome ANYBODY with open arms who wants to help out.

Here are some things to consider:

·         A sub-committee to design and distribute flyers for various St. Luke’s events

·         On-going design and/or brainstorming and/or technical help with ads, brochures, banners, etc...

·         A sub-committee to work on a re-design of our website http://www.st-lukes.net

·         Any other ideas????  I have been amazed at what we have been able to do with minimal help... imagine what we can accomplish together!  The commission can definitely use your fresh ideas!
